TacoChela offers authentic Mexican food with a fun Mikkeller twist

TacoChela is not your standard Mexican joint. A slang word for “tacos and beer,” TacoChela is a collaboration of big names in beer and food. The project unites Mikkeller founder and brewmaster Mikkel Borg Bjergsø with Garth Welsh, former F&B director of W Resort Koh Samui, and Jakob Rasmussen, co-owner of Hopsession and Mikkeller Bangkok.

Taking over the space vacated by Man Cave on Phaholyothin Soi 5, around the corner from BTS Ari, TacoChela will serve proper Mexican food prepared by Mexican chef Jaime “Jimmy” Rojas Lopez, a protégé of Parisian culinary icon Alain Ducasse, whose classic French techniques have informed his own brand of Latin American cooking.

Opening this April, TacoChela brings some Mexican spirit to the Ari neighborhood – and some actual spirits, too, with craft beer from Mikkeller, margaritas on draft, and more. 

The restaurant will feature 10 taps of craft beer, much of them from Mikkeller (think: easy-drinking but interesting pale ales with some high-gravity imperial stouts and barleywines thrown in for good measure), as well as three different kinds of margaritas served on draft – a relatively new bartending trend already found at places like Woo Bar at W Koh Samui.

At the bar you can expect lots of tequilas and mezcal, including a selection of small-batch bottles, and cocktails made from both of them. The taps will have a couple non-alcoholic options, too, including homemade lemonade and horchata, the almond-, cinnamon-, and rice-based drink popular in Mexico.
